JOB SUMMARY

The Field Safety Specialist will be responsible for supporting the organization’s safety department. They will perform administrative functions to support the department and assist in orientation, training, and safety audits as required. The Safety department is responsible for providing daily safety coaching and guidance to employees and management and implementing safety programs to improve employee safety and performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Incumbent must have the skills, ability, and judgment to perform the following essential job duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:

Implement and monitor the effectiveness of safety programs under direction of the HR Director
Conduct safety training as needed and initiate safety improvement programs
Lead/participate/coach incident root cause analysis as needed
Implement corrective/preventative actions as needed & follow up (monitor/evaluation)
Conduct job hazard analysis, risk assessments as needed
Assist in the coordination of Blue Mountains incident and compliance reporting and tracking systems.
Enter incident investigations into Succeed Risk Management for Safety department
Prepare data and statistics to track Safety department metrics and progress towards department goals
Assist with Blue Mountain safety and incident investigations.
Managing the distribution and tracking of Safety policy documents, manuals, bulletins, forms and signage as required.
Inspecting and documenting facility and jobsite audits and inspections and recommending corrective action(s) to ensure compliance
Identifying at-risk behaviors and areas or procedures that are not being followed and recommend corrective actions through positive influence
Complete periodic jobsite safety audits and inspections and identify and address safety concerns and provide recommendations for the jobsite
Function as a resource in providing guidance to employees on safety initiatives and best practices
Assist in maintaining and administering new and current safety programs and policies, JHA and worker’s identification of safety hazards
Maintain records; incident/accident and near misses reports, and first aid reports
Follow-Up with management regarding JHAs
Develop and maintain first aid logs, keep up to date on the first aid forms, and update the employee matrix
Assist in quarterly auditing/inspecting of first-aid kits and eyewash stations
Assist with collection and management of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for required regulatory and internal reporting and maintenance of Safety databases.
Assist with scheduling and preparing for various types of Safety related training and presentations.
Ensure each level of management is properly informed of all activities relative to compliance with company safety policies.
May on occasion source safety related supplies and equipment for purchase.
Assist with conducting effective job hazard and ergonomics analysis of the work place and for all work centers, including capturing photos of non-compliances.
Provide input into corporate/functional safe work practices (policies, rules, etc.)
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Technical skills:

Principles of Industrial Safety
Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene
Root cause investigation methodologies
Job safety analysis / risk assessment techniques
Basic knowledge of H&S Regulatory requirements
Auditing skills and Analytical capabilities
MS Office

Business skills:

Public speaking, strong oral/written communication skills
Conflict resolution and mediation along with negotiation and intervention skills
Drive for continuous improvement and initiative
Strong leadership/coaching ability for the influence on all levels
Must be able to read and understand technical rules, policies, regulations and laws
Must be able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize/organize work

Education / Certification / Experience:

Experience with incident investigation, workplace inspection and job hazard analysis.
Experience in the gathering and compilation of data, and preparation of reports.
Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.
1-5 years Construction experience or relevant industrial safety experience
Associates Degree/Certificate in H&S or progressing toward
H&S Certification or progressing toward (CRSP)
Specialized Knowledge: Cal/OSHA General Industry/Construction Standards, Environmental Regulations and Hazardous Waste and Material Management Minimum Knowledge/education/certification/license requirements: Occupational Safety and Health experience and certification in construction or manufacturing field.
First Aid and CPR/AED Certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; sit; walk; talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed mostly in field settings. Considerable outdoor work is required in inspection of various jobsites, construction sites.
