Job Description :
Employee Relations Specialist

Responsible for conducting thorough and unbiased investigations to determine the facts of the issues and provide objective, consistent and defensible resolutions, and recommendations. Stays abreast of employment laws and regulations and takes appropriate measures for any impact to the organization or its policies. Counsels HR partners, managers and employees through complex employee relations issues while ensuring compliance with corporate policies, procedures and applicable laws and regulations.

Position Responsibilities:

Conduct thorough and unbiased investigations:

Investigate Hotline calls from all Business Units as assigned
Support Employee Relations Consultants (ERCs) on more complex cases.
Document investigations in case management system

Provide consultative advice and counsel to HR consultants, management and employees on performance matters, corrective action, conflict resolution, problem resolution and HR policies.

Review employment legislation and external agency rulings to determine any potential impact for Comerica’s HR policies and procedures and update for compliance.

Manage cases in Case Management tool to assure timely closure of all cases.

Follow up on overdue cases
Assure cases are up to date and all relevant data is included
Work with HR Consultants (HRCs) to ensure all steps of investigation and documentation are complete

Special Projects and other activities relating to Employee Relations or Compliance as assigned

Job Specific Knowledge/Skills:

Competencies needed to be successful: negotiation, managerial courage, business, acumen, politically savvy, strategic agility and a drive for results
Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Demonstrated analytical, interpersonal and problem-solving skills to deal with a broad range of sensitive and confidential employee relations issues
Quality-decision making ability
Strong interpersonal verbal and written communication skills, including interview skills to determine the facts related to the incident
Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners and clients
Ability to build relationships quickly both internally and externally
Knowledge of applicable state and federal employment labor laws and governmental compliance requirements

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or 4 years of relevant experience
4 years of experience in Human Resources in one or more of the major functional areas: Benefits, Compensation, Employee Relations, Staffing, Learning and/or Consulting
2 years of experience working with employee relations issues including harassment and discrimination complaints and investigations
2 years of experience working with laws and regulations that affect employee relations matters
1 year of experience with Navex Ethics Point Case Management Tool or any Case Management Tool preferred
1 year of experience utilizing Microsoft Office applications

Comerica Bank Tower
8:00am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday. This position offers a hybrid work model that includes onsite and remote days as determined by the manager.
