Overview:

Hands On | Growing company looking for a dedicated Shop Manager!

Located in
Hawthorne, CA, this company serves the medical and aerospace industries and has been around since the 1940’s. What’s more, they have worked to continuously expand their organization through significant CAPEX investment and have increase their company size by 20-30% yearly (this is a great growth opportunity!). Currently, their 70,000 square foot facility holds 70 employees and 50 CNC machines; in addition to machining, they specialize in other processes such as gun drilling, honing, and wire-hold drilling.

Due to this growth, they are looking for a dedicated Shop Manager with strong technical abilities to drive process improvements during this time. In this role, you will be given the opportunity to work with high end metals on complex, challenging parts in a stable environment with significant tenure among most employees (very low turnover!).

The operation is currently running a 1st and 2nd shift with plans to implement a 3rd shift. This is a
salaried position with a 7AM start time, with a goal to maintain a strong work/life balance.

Responsibilities:

This company is looking for a motivated Machine Shop Manager who has strong technical abilities programming and setting up mills and lathes while also being able to manage a group of machinists.

Be hands on machines with the ability to jump in on programming and setup/operation
Lead a team of 5-10 direct reports (lead machinists)
Manage day to day operations of machining department.
Setting and managing daily priorities and productivity within the machine shop.
Must be able to motivate, provide leadership and create a team environment.

Qualifications:

5-10 years experience in CNC machining industry, preferably in a lead role
Machining knowledge in both milling and turning required
Strong troubleshooting/process improvement skills
Ability to train others
Experience with programming on mills and/or lathes
Experience with set up and operation of mills and/or lathes (5 axis experience is a plus)
A proven ability to lead, energize, direct and motivate a great group of machinists, programmers and similarly, highly skilled, personnel
Ability to manage and prioritize a high number of set-ups and short run jobs.
Able to understand mechanical drawings and tolerances.
