Patient Companion PRN (As Needed) – Virtual Patient Observation Program

Work location: Texas Health Dallas – 8200 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, Texas 75231
Work hours: Night shift (7p-7a), PRN position (as needed)
Virtual Care is considered the next frontier in health care delivery. Texas Health Resources is one of the largest faith-based, nonprofit health systems in the U.S. and provides innovative care to the North Texas community. Texas Health is expanding its reach into virtual care by launching its Virtual Patient Observation program. Texas Health is looking for vigilant and dedicated individuals to work as Virtual Patient Companions (VPC). The Virtual Patient Companion will support the safety of patients by remotely video monitoring patients and working closely with the hospital teams across the system to manage those patients’ care.
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Experience
1 year experience in a acute hospital setting as a Nurse Aide’s, Patient Care Tech, Monitor Tech, or other nursing support role preferred
Position Responsibilities
The Virtual Care Patient Companion is a member of the health care team working remotely from centralized location under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager of the Virtual Care Center. The Virtual Care Companion provides continuous technology enabled monitoring and surveillance/observation with intervention steps and escalation paths to support patient safety and prevention of injury.
In addition to the required qualifications, a successful Virtual Care Patient Companion will
Must be able to utilize the technology required for visualization and interventions for safe patient care.
Demonstrates competency in the set-up and use of monitoring system.
Always maintains visual observation, whether individually or observing multiple patients at one time on a monitor.
Ability to communicate effectively with hospital staff and respond quickly to patient behavioral changes.
Reports any physical or behavioral changes promptly to nursing staff responsible for the care of the patient and ensures follow-up actions.
Seeks assistance or advice immediately when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others.
Participates in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues.
Participates in hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients at the start and upon completion of shift assignment.
Maintains vigilance in observation of patients for safety by not engaging in any distractions, including but not limited to, the use of personal cell phones, computer access, reading material or other visual material not directly involved with the care of the patient.
Collects, reports and documents patient information and interventions timely and accurately.
Troubleshoots monitoring difficulties, alerts vendor of any software or hardware problems.
Admissions and dismissals are processed promptly.
Always maintains patient confidentiality.
Conducts self in a professional manner, using accountability in communication to resolve problems in an open, timely manner
Maintain appropriate skills i.e drawings of virtual side rails
Accepts other duties as assigned
