Performs an integral role within project teams to deliver enterprise-level Geographic Information System (GIS) data, analysis and solutions. Works cross-functionally to design, implement, test and deploy Enterprise, Web and Mobile GIS solutions that optimize business processes and allow others to gain insight through the visualization of business intelligence for use in supporting executive decision making, Operations, Rights-of-Way (ROW), Commercial and our other internal customers.


Extensive focus on building visually appealing maps using ArcGIS Desktop, through the use of advanced cartography tools and techniques, to satisfy specific business needs
Standardizes, automates, and delivers recurring GIS maps to all departments through the use of Python, Model Builder, Alteryx, or other Workflow tools

Creates and maintains pipeline centerlines and associated features from from various sources, and enters all attributes into the PODS database using industry standard GIS software
Creates and automates PODS reports supplied to the business for various purposes, and creates internal reports to support Quality Control initiatives


Partners with our Operations, Commercial and Rights-of-Way lines of business to understand current business processes, future desired states and recommend GIS-centric solutions where appropriate

Loads and maintains Pipeline Open Data Standard (PODS)/Spatial Database Engine (SDE) data
Assists in the development and delivery of GIS systems training, troubleshooting and support
Automates work process through Model Builder, Python and other technologies
Assists with GIS projects to bring value and transformation to the company
Provides GIS analysis and spatial and relational database management as it pertains to the operation and maintenance of transmission and gathering system pipeline

Supports mobile GIS initiatives associated with field data capture and operational awareness
Creates presentation quality maps and reports for a variety of internal stakeholders
Provides input on the design and management of GIS databases, tools and applications
Integrates existing data from a variety of internal and external sources into the GIS database
Partners with assigned business units to gather business requirements and design solutions to increase their capabilities

Assists in the design, writing and maintenance of GIS workflow and standards documentation
Presents in-house training material to increase utilization of GIS technology
Completes special projects as assigned
Performs other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization


Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, GIS, Geography or a similar degree field and/or equivalent experience
No minimum years experience required; 2 years related experience and oil and gas industry experience preferred
Proficiency with relational and spatial database design, queries and reporting
Understanding of PODS, ArcGIS Pipeline Data Model (APDM), ArcGIS Pipeline Referencing (APR) and ImageStation Automatic Triangulation (ISAT)

Understanding of Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) Portal, GeoEvents, Web App Builder and REST technologies to provide spatial analysis, cartographic products and published services
Ability to automate spatial analysis and business processes using Python, Model Builder, JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) and Feature Manipulation Engine (FME)
Experience in SQL, C#, HTML, HTML5 and JavaScript
Familiarity with New Century Software, DeLorme XMap, Visual Fusion and LandWorks applications
Familiarity with Business Intelligence technologies such as High-Performance Analytic Appliance (HANA), BusinessObjects and Xcelsius

Familiarity with DeLorme XMap 8 and data collection forms
Understand and apply SDLC (software development lifecycle) concepts
Understand and apply principals of Project Management
Knowledge of midstream pipeline business functions especially Operations, ROW, Commercial, Measurement and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
Solid communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships

Ability to work independently as well as part of a team


Must have excellent cartography skills and able to build visually appealing maps within a professional environment
Proficient in the use of ArcGIS Desktop and Python, Feature Manipulation Engine (FME), Model Builder, or Alteryx in a GIS environment to produce professional grade maps

Outside the box thinker who focuses on improving processes through the use of technology


This job primarily operates in a professional office environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, etc. Noise level is typically low. Frequently in a stationary, sitting position for prolonged periods of time. Regularly moves about inside the office to complete tasks, attend meetings or to access the copy machine or file cabinets. Periodically pulls/pushes doors open to move around the office. Occasionally may lift and carry objects up to 20 pounds.
Occasional travel will be required
