Overview:
Veeco Instruments, a leading provider of thin film process solutions for the SEMI, Optical, Data Storage, and MEMS industries, has an opening for a Process Development Engineering Manager to lead all thin film process activities in the Plainview NY division. This dynamic role will be responsible for helping to deliver on the company’s revenue and growth targets through successful execution of customer process demonstrations, production qualifications, as well as new product development activities. This individual will lead a world class team of process engineers and be responsible for delegating, planning and prioritizing objectives that are aligned with the business unit goals. The position will be focused on driving product solutions for ion beam products in order to penetrate and serve tier 1 SEMI & other related customers.

Responsibilities:

Develop, train, and lead a team of process engineers to research and develop new processes, product improvements, and intellectual property that will meet customer requirements while ensuring success in customer demonstrations and process transfer qualification at customer sites.
Interface with a cross functional team from Marketing, Sales, Engineering, and Operations to drive product success by providing definition of process requirements, specs, and methods that will address customers high value problems.
Participate in the design, development, characterization, continuous improvement, and troubleshooting of new component, sub-system, and entire system designs for deposition, etching and film surface modification.
Create and deliver technical presentation material for internal and external customers relating to the progress on R&D projects as well as customer demonstration schedules and project timelines.

Qualifications:

A Masters in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or related technical area and a minimum of 6 years relevant industry experience required. A Ph.D. is not required but it would be considered a plus.
A minimum of 2 years’ experience managing an Engineering, R&D group, or operations team is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Expertise in process development on high vacuum etch and/or deposition systems is required; Ion beam system and Product Development experience is a plus.
Expertise in material science and surface characterization along with in-depth knowledge of thin film characterization using analytical equipment such as ellipsometry, XRD/XRR, Profilers, AFM, SEM, 4PP, etc. is required.
Experience in capital equipment and SEMI would be considered a plus.
Ability and initiative to work in a fast paced, challenging environment filled with ambiguity while leading a highly skilled team to deliver business results on committed timelines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills that will be applied internally and externally showcasing strong interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to earn trust is key for this role.
US and International travel capability is required.
