Work Schedule: Evenings with Weekend and Holiday Rotation

Hours: 3:30pm to 11:30pm

Summary:
Under the supervision of the Emergency Department Director or designee, the Emergency Department Unit Secretary is responsible for performing general receptionist and clerical duties in the Emergency Department . Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Maintains confidentiality of all hospital/staff information.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION

High School or equivalent required
Cardiac Dsyrhythmia course must be passed within six (6) months of job offer
Medical terminology course is desirable
Basic typing course preferred

EXPERIENCE

Six (6) months to one (1) year of secretarial, clerical or patient registration and/or business required
Computer entry experience preferred (introduction computer courses, windows applications) preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Good human relations and oral/written communication skills
Answer telephones
Compile statistics
Develop office procedures
Establish filing systems
Input data into computer programs
Maintain logs

WORKING CONDITIONS

Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances
Exposed to: housekeeping cleaning agents/chemicals; unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness)
Increased pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries
May be exposed: to infections and contagious diseases; toxic chemicals (i.e. photocopier)
Subject to: varying and unpredictable situations; many interruptions
