POSITION TITLE: Research Assistant I-Huang Lab
POSITION SUMMARY: Work under minimal supervision, independently and in collaboration with others perform research and conduct a wide variety of standard laboratory procedures for projects; analyze data and interpret results; investigate, troubleshoot, and modify methods and procedures as necessary; may assist in designing experiments; may provide routine equipment maintenance as well as guidance/training to other department personnel; perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.

Work under general supervision. Assistance given for unusual problems and normally reviewed for application of sound professional judgement.
Ability to independently conduct a wide variety of standard laboratory techniques/procedures. Some ability to use judgement when necessary to adapt standard methods and techniques. Receive instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions.
Collect, analyze, and interpret data. Modify procedures as necessary. Execute experimental procedures under general or minimal supervision.
Assist group members with troubleshooting experiments.
May assist in designing experiments to complete a segment of overall research plan.
Provide some routine equipment maintenance and training to other personnel.
Experience with animal work is not required for this posting.
Use Microsoft Office products and other scientific software to present data.
Some training will be provided to equip successful candidate to be able to work in a glycobiology laboratory.
Co-authorship in publications will be encouraged as part of this position.


Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained.
Requires 1-3 years experience in work related to biochemistry (e.g. protein expression and purification, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting), molecular biology (e.g. transformation, transfection, viral transduction), cell biology (e.g. mammalian tissue culture), or bioconjugation.
Candidates possessing a Master’s degree, 0-2 years experience required.

Should have a collaborative mindset with effective verbal and written communication skills.
Strong attention to detail, ability to follow technical protocols, and organization skills are key in this position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.
COMPENSATION: $20.07-$25.06 per hour based on experience.
