Job Description :
Position Summary: The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office (DANY) seeks a Press Officer to join its Communications Department. DANY is one of the nation’s preeminent prosecutor’s offices, and a leader in the development of innovative strategies aimed at preventing crime and justice reform initiatives. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Field inquiries from local, national, and international news outlets.
Draft press releases, briefings, and remarks to be delivered by the District Attorney and members of the executive team.
Coordinate press conferences and public events.
Monitor court appearances in high-profile cases.
Generate story ideas and pitch them to print, broadcast, and web outlets.
Perform on-call press duty, including occasional after-hours and weekend availability.
Perform other related tasks and duties as assigned.


Prior related work or internship experience.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills required.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment.
Ability to interact with all levels of staff, other law enforcement agencies, and outside organizations.
Must be able to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Detail oriented and self-motivated with the ability to multitask.
Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow.
Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with New York City media preferred.
Interest in criminal justice, government, and politics a plus.

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required.


One (1) year commitment to hiring department.
