Purpose:
Athene is looking for a highly motivated Director of Accounting Policy to join our Accounting Policy team. The Director will interact with Athene senior leaders on complex and technical transactions, lead a technical team and provide oversight and maintenance of the SOX control environment for investment related accounting policy. This position will report to the AVP of Accounting Policy.

Accountabilities:
Coordinate GAAP and Statutory accounting policy activities in all business units for the investment portfolio of Athene Holding; efficient communication of activity and issues across the Company to all relevant stakeholders

Disseminate periodic updates on new and emerging accounting rules and pronouncements

Serve as key developer of new accounting policies and procedures to account for unusual transactions and technical accounting guidance related to investments; establish necessary workflow for approval

Develop implementation plans for new accounting pronouncements

Document and maintain policies to ensure adherence to accounting and reporting regulations

Collaborate with Apollo Insurance Solution Group (Athene’s asset manager) to help structure and determine accounting policy for all complex asset deals

Leads special projects as needed

Qualifications and Experience:
7+ or more years of related experience in technical accounting or auditing; insurance experience preferred

4+ years of managing/leading others

Ability to make decisions quickly, provide clarity to senior leaders, use independent judgment, establish priorities, and work effectively on multiple initiatives concurrently

Ability for developing solutions within the boundaries of regulatory agencies and corporate infrastructure standards

Considerable knowledge of investments (derivatives, alternatives, CLO’s, structured assets)

Extensive experience in GAAP and Statutory accounting required

Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required (or equivalent work experience)

CPA strongly preferred
