About Star Gospel Mission:
Founded in 1904 in Charleston, South Carolina, Star Gospel Mission exists to transform lives through Jesus Christ by compassionately providing resources for people experiencing hardships. The Mission’s principal response is to provide housing options, counseling, and other human services to men facing homelessness. It also responds to the needs of the community by offering emergency assistance to individuals and families. Most importantly, StarGospel Mission offers hope through the Gospel of Jesus Christ to anyone seeking spiritual transformation.
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Mission Executive Director, the Development Officer strategically plans, implements and oversees the development/fund-raising function for Star Gospel Mission, including donor communications and cultivation, print, broadcast, social media, and special events.
Develops and nurtures donor relations and maintains accurate and timely records and reports in Bloomerang. Must be or become passionate about the vision and values of Star Gospel Mission, and clearly state personal commitment to it.
The Development Officer will:

Work closely with Mission leadership to determine local funding needs and program and services offered for presentation to donors and prospective donors.
Raise funds to sustain and enhance Star Gospel Mission’s services in Charleston, SC.
Develop and nurture a growing portfolio of donors and prospective donors including individuals, foundations and corporations.
Plan and implement special events designed to increase donor engagement and build the brand of Star

Gospel Mission.
Personal Donor Fund-Raising Goals and Responsibilities: (50%)
Completes, revises, and implements a progression plan for every donor and prospective donor in the Mission’s donor portfolio.
Responds to inquiries and communications from donors, board members, and the executive director in a timely, professional and appropriate manner.
Works to raise monies and meet the prescribed goals as determined and approved by Mission leadership.
Manages the use of Bloomerang, updating donor information as needed and interactions regularly.
Long Term Development and Planning Responsibilities: (50%)
Researches and writes funding and grant applications to individuals, foundations, and corporations.
Works to implement and successfully complete the strategic plan as prescribed by Star Gospel Mission leadership, focusing on donor acquisition, cultivation, and production.
Develops a legacy giving program providing donors with the option of contributing to Star Gospel Mission beyond their lifetime.

Works closely with Mission leadership to ascertain potential and current funding sources: community and business leaders and influencers, and faith based opportunities.
Represents Star Gospel Mission professionally and appropriately in a variety of settings and events, ensuring that all presentations, proposals, applications, and communications meet the language standards expected and are in compliance with Mission policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Marketing or a field related to the goals of Star Gospel Mission, and
Three years major gift fund-raising experience in a faith-based organization any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications/Licenses:
Valid State Driver’s License
Certified Fundraising Executive Certification (preferred)
Christian ministry credentials/experience helpful
Materials and Equipment:
General Office Equipment Computer Smart/Mobile Device Technology
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of current principles and practices of individual, corporate, and foundation fund-raising and communication techniques.
Knowledge of donor records management and administration as well as data and trend analysis.
Ability to research, solicit, and secure funds from individual, corporate, and foundation relationships.
Ability to build and maintain effective donor and working relationships within the Charleston Community and beyond.
Ability to maintain and secure accurate and up-to-date donor records in Constituent Management System
Ability to speak and give presentations on behalf of the organization to civic groups, congregations, and clubs.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to speak and read the English language.
Ability to sit, walk, and stand on a frequent change basis in order to perform the duties of this position.
Ability to lift objects weighing between 25 lbs.
Ability to travel throughout the Tri-County area on a regular basis to work with donors/prospects, and professionals of their communities.

Working Conditions:
Work is typically performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
