Moody’s Local Government Team is hiring an Analyst to join the team in New York! This is a challenging, high profile role in the public finance market in which the Analyst will focus on credit analysis of government and enterprise debt issued by local governments in the southeastern US. While contributing to Moody’s and the team’s efforts, this role offers an opportunity to expand depth and breadth of your skill portfolio to include being a lead or lead back-up analyst in a state, writing sector-based research, speaking at regional conferences, and contributing to ESG credit analytics.

The Analyst will have a key leadership role in the analysis of credit aspects of issuers and various debt instruments within the portfolio of Moody’s-rated local governments for one or more of the following states: Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Kentucky. This work includes modeling and the formulation and substantiation of credit opinions. They will be expected to serve as the primary ratings analyst for credit ratings, present to rating committees, communicate their analysis during internal meetings, and write accurate and insightful reports. They will also be expected to effectively and professionally respond to investor and press inquiries related to credits within their assigned portfolio, and interact with government representatives, financial intermediaries, investors, and other market participants. They will also work on various special research projects, develop in-depth knowledge of the state and local governments, and pursue thought leadership initiatives to enhance our analytics and research impact.

5+ years of professional experience in Public Finance or a related field
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Public Policy, Public Administration, Economics, or Business strongly preferred
Experience with local government budgeting, accounting, and finance
Knowledge of local governments’ economic, financial and political challenges
Excellent communication (verbal, written) and presentation skills
Highly proficient analysis skills (quantitative, qualitative)
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
Ability to collaborate closely with others as well as independently to produce accurate, detailed work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Prioritize and handle multiple projects and tasks with a high degree of accuracy and timely delivery
Travel up to 20% of the time
